Marketing Troublesome Websites - Rebuild Site Or Stick It Out?

Over the years, I have had many clients come to me in distress wondering why their internet marketing efforts aren't working and, more importantly, should they keep their troublesome website or start over from scratch. This is often a tough situation as money has been spent on the current website, but when built, it was not intended for Web 2.0 elements.

First of all, how easy can the meta information on each page of your website be updated? Does it need to be updated by hand in the code? The goal is to have a website (if larger than 15-20 pages) that has a CMS system to allow easy updates. Most website owners have no clue aboutinternet marketing and SEO let alone hand-coding of meta information. Due to this, if your site has no CMS system and you intend to add more pages in the future, you may want to rebuild the site as it will save you time in the long run.

Secondly, pertaining to the functionality of your website, it should be able to accommodate additional pages and content because things always change. If your design is
limiting, this may be cause to rebuild the site.

Thirdly, since mobile phones have become very popular for browsing the internet, be sure your website design is mobile compatible or at least important aspects are. If you have a Flash website, create a footer that includes your contact information in plain old HTML.

When you're at the point of no return, if that is the case, don't keep throwing money into your website. It's like a bottomless pit.

I hope this article has been helpful and good luck!
